Drone footage reveals aftermath of Amazon fires.
Aerial footage shows the desolation left in the wake of fires that have swept the Amazon rainforest over the last month.
Right now the Amazon is burning, it has been set on fire deliberately for the purpose of clearing the land for agriculture. As many as 73,000 fires have been recorded in the Amazon rainforest already this year – 85% more fires than were seen during 2018. As the world's largest rainforest the Amazon is an important ally in fighting the climate crisis. It's nature is to absorb carbon, not produce it, 140 billion tonnes of carbon are contained in the trees of this jungle, the equivalent of what humans produce in 100 years.
The Rainforest as we all know provides us with 20 percent of our oxygen and removes carbon from the atmosphere and is considered vital in the slowing of global warming. It is home to countless species of plants and animals, an estimated 3 million species, maybe much more as there are no doubt many that have not been discovered. The loss of this habitat has been directly devastating to all life in the Amazon rainforest from the indigenous people, about 1 million of whom live in the Amazon rainforest, to the tiniest insect. It is hard to imagine the horror of being trapped by fires for countless billions of animals, yes billions of animal if you include the infinite number of tiny animals, insects and so on who inhabit this vital region of our plant. Yes the lives of tiny creatures are import, all lives are important all living beings wish to live, survival is a basic instinct. It of course goes without saying that what happens in the Amazon and other rainforests affects very single one of us.
The sight of the Amazon rainforest burning was just heartbreaking. I was tearful, depressed but also angry very angry as where countless people around the world.
Put your anger and determination to save the Amazon into to good use by taking as many as you can of the following actions:
Take Action
Keep in mind the gravity of our situation: If we do not stop the destruction of the rainforest there is no way to fight climate change.
